The pharmaceutical industry, despite having strict operational and quality controls, faces multiple hazards throughout its manufacturing processes. Besides the obvious health risk faced by operators handling toxic chemical materials, there is an inherent fire and explosion risk associated with the processing of combustible solids and flammable liquids used in the formulation of final products.
Unit operations such as blending, granulation, milling and drying, may under certain circumstances generate flammable gasses, combustible dusts or hybrid mixtures of the two, which when in contact with a heat source will ignite, leading to fire and/or explosion. Additionally, common industrial equipment used in pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, such as boilers, transformers, heat exchangers as well as the electrical facilities, also pose a significant fire hazard. A short circuit induced fire in an electrical cabinet or a transformer for example, may spread to other areas of the facility, leading to severe collateral damages. Such events can escalate very quickly and if not suppressed can potentially endanger lives, and destroy critical equipment and plant infrastructure.
FirePro systems are effective against all classes of fire; ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids and electrically induced fires. Furthermore, our ATEX generators are certified for use in the most challenging scenario where an explosive atmosphere is continuously present.
