Bureau Veritas Type Approval

FirePro obtains Prestigious Bureau Veritas Type Approval

Following the successful renewal of the MED Type Approval (Certificate No. BSI/MED/PC/560437), which is in full compliance to IMO/MSC. 1/ Circ 1270 and to the Marine Equipment Directive (MED) 96/98/EC, as amended, and last amended by Directive 2009/26/EC, a further recognition has been received by one of the most prestigious Marine Classification Societies: Bureau Veritas (BV).
 
The BV Type Approval Certificate, number 31670/AO BV can be seen below.
 
Bureau Veritas has assessed FirePro Aerosol Fixed Fire Extinguishing Systems, as per the following requirements:
BV Rules Part C Ch 4
SOLAS 74, as amended, Ch. II.2
IMO MSC/Circ. 1007
IMO MSC 1/Circ. 1270
The Approval covers protection of Machinery Spaces of Category A according to SOLAS 74 Chapter 2, Regulation 32 & 34. These are spaces and trunks to such spaces which contain either:
 
a. Internal combustion machinery used for main propulsion.
b. Internal combustion machinery used for purposes other than main propulsion where such machinery has in the aggregate a total power output of not less than 375 kW.
c. Any oil-fired boiler or oil fuel unit, or any oil-fired equipment other than boilers, such as inert gas generators, incinerators, etc.
d. Specifically, auxiliary equipment, boilers, condensers, evaporators, main engines, reduction gears, tanks, trunks.
 
In addition to the above mandatory protection requirements, it is up to the discretion of the owner to mandate the protection of other areas of the vessel.
